Airtel Rising Stars tournament kicks off tomorrow


Dar es Salaam, Monday July 18, 2011...The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) today conducted a draw for the inaugural under seventeen Airtel Rising Stars football tournament whose regional matches are set to kick off in Dar es Salaam tomorrow. The tournament has drawn 24 secondary school teams from Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Iringa and Mwanza.     
Host grounds in Dar es Salaam are Mokongo Secondary School in Kinondoni, Jitegemee Secondary School in Temeke and St. Anthony Secondary School. The curtain raisers tomorrow are Goba vs Mpigimagohe at Makongo Secondary ground (Kinondoni), Jitegemee vs Kibugumo at Saint Anthony Secondary School ground (Temeke), Misitu vs Kinyerezi at Airwing (ilala).
Airtel Rising Stars Regional matches in Morogoro will commence on Thursday July 21, 2011 at Morogoro Secondary School ground where Morogoro Secondary will play against Sua Secondary. Elsewhere, Iringa will start their matches on Sunday July 24th by pitting Mawelewele against Lugalo Secondary at Lugalo ground while the lake zone region of Mwanza will start their league on Wednesday July 27th 2011 with a match between Nsumba Secondary and Mwanza Secondary at Mwanza Secondary School ground.
All regional matches are scheduled to be completed this month when each participating region will produce its team champions ready for the cutthroat 2011 Airtel Rising Stars national finals to be held in Dar es Salaam in September.      
Speaking at the draw press conference today, Airtel Tanzania Director of Corporate Communication and Regulatory Beatrice Singano Mallya said the cellular phone company was proud to join hands with one of the leading football clubs in the world Manchester United to support youth football programme in Tanzania and in Africa in general.  
“We believe that our combined forces with Manchester United and TFF will facilitate football development in Tanzania. We have confidence in the youth that, given chance and support, they are able to excel in football”, said Mallya and commended the ministry responsible for sports in Tanzania and TFF for embracing their initiative to promote football in the country.
The Airtel Rising Stars finals will be followed by an international coaching clinic for English speaking countries to be held in Tanzania under tutelage Manchester United Coaching Staff. Tanzania will enter six outstanding players in this clinic that will be determined during the finals.
On his part, the TFF Acting Secretary General Sunday Kayuni praised Airtel Tanzania for partnering with football in Tanzania and said that TFF will give maximum cooperation and support to ensure this project becomes a success story.
